Eid al-Fitr, the Festival of Breaking the Fast, marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast and abstain from habits such as smoking, caffeine, sex, and gossip from sunrise to sunset each day. This sacred practice is seen as a way to both physically and spiritually purify oneself while practicing self-restraint. Learn more about Ramadan.

Eid al-Fitr is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. (The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, meaning that months and holidays may fall in any season of the year.)

Join Executive Director Wendy Goldberg for this Open Conversation with Imam Mohamad Jamal Daoudi from American Muslim Institute as he shares his reflections on Eid al-Fitr this year.

Add your voice: As Muslims pray for answers and forgiveness throughout their holy month, what do those words mean for you in 2021? As a community, how can we support our Muslim neighbors on the Tri-Faith Commons during Ramadan each year?
